The University of Birmingham’s Event Management Team is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

The website has been tested against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standard.

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances and exemptions listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • There are images with no alternative text due to limitations of the components used in our site builder. This fails WCAG 1.1.1 Non-text Content (A).
  • Some tables do not have table headers. This fails WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships (A).
  • Some form input fields are not using the autocomplete attribute to help users fill out forms more efficiently. This fails WCAG 1.3.5 Identify Input Purpose (AA).
  • The visual presentation of text and images of text does not always have a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1. This fails WCAG 1.4.3 Contrast (Minimum) (AA).
  • The main banner contains images of text and, as a result, users cannot adjust how the text is presented. This fails WCAG 1.4.5 Images of Text (AA).
  • Within the agenda section, the focus is not set onto the session details modal dialogs. When the modal dialogs are activated, focus remains on the background element that triggered the modal dialog rather than focus moving onto the modal dialog element. This fails WCAG 2.4.3 Focus Order (A).
  • Expandable navigation menu dropdowns do not have their interactivity exposed to assistive technologies. This fails WCAG 4.1.2 Name, Role, Value (A).
